Engage with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities

As a social worker professional I recognize that engagement is an essential step in working with clients.  I will strive to engage my clients in order to empower them and to help them become willing to make a change.

Practice Behaviors:

1. Use practice experience and theory to inform scientific inquiry.
2. Apply critical thinking to engage in analysis of quantitative and qualitative research methods and research findings.
3. Use and translate research evidence to inform and improve practice, policy, and service delivery.

During my senior practicum, I was able to practice engagement by attending and taking part in introductory meetings with potential clients. In my interview workshop class I learned that a key part of engagement (as well as other aspects) is knowing how to actively listen.
